Disney, Lucasfilm moving forward with ‘Children of Blood and Bone’ movie

It’s Star Wars! It’s Indiana Jones! No, it’s … ‘Children of Blood and Bone’!

Lucasfilm is adding ‘Children of Blood and Bone’, the movie adaptation based on the book of the same name by Tomi Adeyemi, to its roster, according to early reports.

Deadline is reporting that Kay Oyegun, best known for NBC’s show ‘This is Us’, will write the screenplay. Nigerian-American director Rick Famuyiwa signed onto direct the film in February.

Fox 2000 originally picked up the rights to Adeyemi’s book, but Disney acquired Fox in a $71.3 billion deal in March. The project caught the eye of Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. Lucasfilm is the studio founded by George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars. It’s best known for the Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies. Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012.

Should all go well, ‘Children of Blood and Bone’ will become Lucasfilm’s first project that is not Star Wars- or Indiana Jones-related since Disney bought the studio.

Children of Virtue and Vengeance, the sequel to Children of Blood and Bone, is on sale now.
