If you’re a fan of Marie Lu’s Series, The Young Elites, you’re in luck!
Today, mashable release the cover for the third and final book of the series, The Midnight Star!!!!! (sightsss)
Check it out!
Are you feeling nostalgic as we are? I’m not sure I’m ready to let these characters go. What do you think will happen now that Adelina is queen? Would we ever see Magiano again?
In addition to the cover reveal, we also have a short interview with the author, read it below.
Adelina rules! Literally
“[Adelina] is kind of in the mode of the bad guy now. She is taking over countries and cementing her status as the new queen. So we’ll definitely see a little bit of Adelina ruling as a queen, and what the repercussions of that are.”
There will be romance
“There is definitely some more romance in it. Magiano comes back. He is somebody that remains quite close to Adelina and her heart even as she continues her downward spiral.”
Expect to see a lot of your favorite characters
“A lot of the other characters from book 1 and 2 will make reappearances as well. Their fates are all kind of forced together again. At the end of book 2, they had gone their separate ways and many of them had separated from each other. Adelina ends the book kind of completely alone. The third book forces a lot of them back together again for a variety of reasons.”
Even Lu was surprised by the ending
“I am a pantser writer [a writer who works without a story outline], so I don’t always know where my stories are going to end up. The ending for The Midnight Star is quite different from the original ending that I had envisioned, which makes me a little nervous. I hope that readers will like it. I didn’t really see it coming until kind of recently.I am guessing that surprise will carry over to the reader as well. But I hope it’s an ending that’s satisfying.”
There will be more about the sibling relationship between Adelina and Violetta
“I’ve always been interested in sibling stories. I think that has something to do with the fact that I’m an only child. So the sisterhood relationship between Adelina and Violetta in the series is one of the most important to me. And it definitely continues in the third book.
I guess Adelina’s entire arc kind of revolves around her relationship with her sister. And it will end in a way that encompasses her sisterhood as well.”
The lines between good and evil will be blurred
I’ve always been fascinated with the idea of every person in the world thinking that they’re the hero of their own story, even people who end up being considered the villain. That’s something that I wanted to play with Adelina. That was the inspiration with the series to begin with.
And having played with that for the first two books, I knew that, going into the third book, her arc had to come around to be: What does it take to find redemption? And what does it mean for her to find peace for herself, and happiness?”
The Midnight Star comes out on October 11.

I love you Adelina, my selfish, angry, passionate, brave girl. <3 Posting a quote from The Midnight Star to celebrate the cover's release…

I can't believe the end is coming, and that Adelina will be leaving my head. She was occasionally a jerk–but she was MY jerk, you know? <3
