We’ve known for a while that more short stories surrounding Tobias Eaton–aka “Four”–are in the works, but not a full length novel. Within the last few days, a leaked portion of Veronica Roth’s “secret project” has been circulating the internet.
We now know that Veronica Roth has been working on a new novel set in the Divergent universe. In the words of those who work with Veronica, it’s “the story of Divergent told through Four’s point of view.”
The circulation has caused Veronica Roth to publish the following statement:
As some of you may have heard, my partial draft of Midnight Four was illegally posted on the Internet and has since been virally distributed without my knowledge or permission or the knowledge or permission of my publisher.
I have a good idea of how the leak happened as there were very few copies of Midnight Four that I gave out. The manuscript that was illegally distributed on the Internet was given to government officials for a good purpose.
I’d rather my fans not read this version of Midnight Four. It wasn’t done and I didn’t want anyone making fun of my uncorrected mistakes. But how do I respond to such a serious issue without making more people want to illegally download it? I’ve decided that it’s in my (and your) best interest if I make the first page of the draft available for free.
