‘Divergent’ fans know all too well that the book and film are about a world that has been torn apart and divided. Ellie Goulding’s track ‘Beating Heart’ from the ‘Divergent’ official soundtrack is very much about overcoming obstacles and reuniting.
MTV News caught up with Goulding as they got a sneak preview of the upcoming music video for ‘Beating Heart’.
‘Beating Heart’ is about being away from someone or knowing that you’re always going to have to be apart from someone that you really love. And it’s painful, but it’s hopeful because there’s always a chance that they’ll collide again like two people collide. Like the universe will bring them back together. I think the song is basically that. Sort of relying on the fact that if you’re meant to be drawn back together you will be.
Goulding, who has multiple tracks in the film, has been called the ‘de facto inner voice’ of Tris Prior by the films director, Neil Burger and the films music supervisor, Randall Poster.
‘Beating Heart’ will close out the film and it seems oddly appropriate that the song is a story of loss with that tinge of hope.
Be sure to check out the premiere of Goulding’s music video for ‘Beating Heart’ tomorrow on MTV First at 7:53pm ET. Goulding will appear for a Q&A on MTV.com alongside Shailene Woodley and Theo James.
Special thanks to MTV News for the heads up on this and the premiere of the music video!
