Veronica Roth has always taken a special interest in Tobias Eaton–aka “Four.” Last year, her secret project, Midnight Four was leaked online. Now, it’s getting a special collector’s edition print.
Midnight Four, which is the re-telling of Divergent from Four’s point of view, is said to be “better” than Four: A Divergent Collection. “Midnight Four is my jam,” said one reviewer. “Not only is it a longer book, but it’s got more cake in it. It shows a new side to Four that wasn’t present in the Four collection.”
The special collector’s edition reportedly includes the following features:
- A forward written by Four actor Theo James in which he writes “pansycake” 53 times in one paragraph.
- A high-definition drawing of chocolate cake.
- An alternate ending in which Tris falls in love with ‘Insurgent’ movie character Edgar.
- A newly revamped cover!
When the manuscript leaked a year ago, Veronica Roth published the following statement:
As some of you may have heard, my partial draft of Midnight Four was illegally posted on the Internet and has since been virally distributed without my knowledge or permission or the knowledge or permission of my publisher. I have a good idea of how the leak happened as there were very few copies of Midnight Four that I gave out. The manuscript that was illegally distributed on the Internet was given to government officials for a good purpose. I’d rather my fans not read this version of Midnight Four. It wasn’t done and I didn’t want anyone making fun of my uncorrected mistakes. But how do I respond to such a serious issue without making more people want to illegally download it? I’ve decided that it’s in my (and your) best interest if I make the first page of the draft available for free.
