It’s no secret that we love books here at 7thPage! We had some awesome reads throughout 2013, some that launched new series and others that brought them to a close. With that said, what should we be looking forward to for this new year? Here are seven of the most anticipated books that you can expect to hear about in 2014.

City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments #6) by Cassandra Clare

I am coming.

Darkness returns to the Shadowhunter world. As their society falls apart around them, Clary, Jace, Simon and their friends must band together to fight the greatest evil the Nephilim have ever faced: Clary’s own brother. Nothing in the world can defeat him — must they journey to another world to find the chance? Lives will be lost, love sacrificed, and the whole world changed in the sixth and last installment of the Mortal Instruments series!

Clare’s immensely popular Mortal Instruments series is coming to a close in the sixth installment of Clary Fray’s story that began back in 2007. Will Clary be able to overcome her brother? And who will die? These are just a couple of what is surely many questions that Shadowhunters are asking themselves.

The Blood of Olympus (Heroes of Olympus #5) by Rick Riordan

Though the Greek and Roman crewmembers of the “Argo II” have made progress in their many quests, they still seem no closer to defeating the earth mother, Gaea. Her giants have risen-all of them, and they’re stronger than ever. They must be stopped before the Feast of Spes, when Gaea plans to have two demigods sacrificed in Athens. She needs their blood-the blood of Olympus-in order to wake.

The demigods are having more frequent visions of a terrible battle at Camp Half-Blood. The Roman legion from Camp Jupiter, led by Octavian, is almost within striking distance. Though it is tempting to take the Athena Parthenos to Athens to use as a secret weapon, the friends know that the huge statue belongs back on Long Island, where it “might” be able to stop a war between the two camps.

The Athena Parthenos will go west; the “Argo II” will go east. The gods, still suffering from multiple personality disorder, are useless. How can a handful of young demigods hope to persevere against Gaea’s army of powerful giants? As dangerous as it is to head to Athens, they have no other option. They have sacrificed too much already. And if Gaea wakes, it is game over.

The House of Hades was one of the most anticipated books of 2013 and left Demigod fans craving for more. Rick Riordan’s talent for mixing humor, wit and suspense is what makes the next book in the Heroes of Olympus series one of the most anticipated. We sure can’t wait to jump back into Camp Half-Blood for some more Roman-Greek action!

The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen

On her nineteenth birthday, Princess Kelsea Raleigh Glynn, raised in exile, sets out on a perilous journey back to the castle of her birth to ascend her rightful throne. Plain and serious, a girl who loves books and learning, Kelsea bears little resemblance to her mother, the vain and frivolous Queen Elyssa. But though she may be inexperienced and sheltered, Kelsea is not defenseless: Around her neck hangs the Tearling sapphire, a jewel of immense magical power; and accompanying her is the Queen’s Guard, a cadre of brave knights led by the enigmatic and dedicated Lazarus. Kelsea will need them all to survive a cabal of enemies who will use every weapon—from crimson-caped assassins to the darkest blood magic—to prevent her from wearing the crown.

Despite her royal blood, Kelsea feels like nothing so much as an insecure girl, a child called upon to lead a people and a kingdom about which she knows almost nothing. But what she discovers in the capital will change everything, confronting her with horrors she never imagined. An act of singular daring will throw Kelsea’s kingdom into tumult, unleashing the vengeance of the tyrannical ruler of neighboring Mortmesne: the Red Queen, a sorceress possessed of the darkest magic. Now Kelsea will begin to discover whom among the servants, aristocracy, and her own guard she can trust.

But the quest to save her kingdom and meet her destiny has only just begun—a wondrous journey of self-discovery and a trial by fire that will make her a legend…if she can survive.

The Queen of the Tearling introduces readers to a world as fully imagined and terrifying as that of The Hunger Games, with characters as vivid and intriguing as those of The Game of Thrones, and a wholly original heroine. Combining thrilling action and twisting plot turns, it is a magnificent debut from the talented Erika Johansen.

This one caused quite the uproar last year with its controversial pitch-line (“female Game of Thrones”) and even more so with the mega-movie deal–all for a book that hasn’t yet been published and is coming from a debut author. Emma Watson is signed to play the lead role in the film adaption, and that’s about all we know apart from the book synopsis. We’re definitely interested to see what all the fuss is about.

The Infinite Sea (The 5th Wave #2) by Rick Yancey

tis-banner

How do you rid the Earth of seven billion humans? Rid the humans of their humanity.

Surviving the first four waves was nearly impossible. Now Cassie Sullivan finds herself in a new world, a world in which the fundamental trust that binds us together is gone. As the 5th Wave rolls across the landscape, Cassie, Ben, and Ringer are forced to confront the Others’ ultimate goal: the extermination of the human race.

Cassie and her friends haven’t seen the depths to which the Others will sink, nor have the Others seen the heights to which humanity will rise, in the ultimate battle between life and death, hope and despair, love and hate.

Rick Yancey crashed into the YA scene with his heart-pounding novel, The 5th Wave. So what’s next for Cassie and her friends? And is there any chance that You-Know-Who survived (Not you, Voldy)? It’ll be exciting to see just how The 5th Wave rolls out across Earth and if our favorite survivors can beat it against all odds.

The Iron Trial by Cassandra Clare and Holly Black

magis-banner

Twelve-year-old Callum Hunt has grown up knowing three rules by heart. Never trust a magician. Never pass a test a magician gives you. And never let a magician take you to the Magisterium. Callum is about to break all the rules. And when he does, his life will change in ways he can’t possibly imagine.

What, Cassandra Clare again? Yup. And this time with popular author Holly Black to launch their new series, Magisterium. It’s hard to say what we should expect from this book, but we can at least say one thing: the font for Magisterium looks uncomfortably close to the Harry Potter font. Regardless, we’re hoping for an exciting new adventure from these two fantasy writers!

Expect it: October 2nd, 2014

 The Racket by John Green

john-green-banner

Alright. This might be a long shot. As far as we know, he’s still only working on the first draft. But why not fantasize of a new John Green novel in 2014? After the masterpiece that was The Fault in Our Stars, how can you blame us for being a little impatient for his next book? The title of John Green’s next work is apparently called The Racket and the first 5,000 words were given away as an incentive in John’s latest Project for Awesome campaign.

What are you looking forward to reading in 2014?

I might read Magisterium. I kind of gave up on Cassandra Clare but maybe its worth another try.

Ughhhh she’s so annoying. There was no mention of Galbraith’s sequel here. I think that will be more popular than The freaking One.
