Another new face was added to the growing cast of the Shadowhunters TV show tonight as Alan Van Sprang was announced as the actor selected to take on the role of the show’s main antagonist, Valentine Morgenstern.
Van Sprang is known for a number of roles, such as the 2011 film Immortals, as well as appearing as a man character of the third series of The Tudors, and most recently he appeared in the popular TV show Reign.
This casting is perhaps one of the most highly anticipated and exciting given that the casting of Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the failed 2013 film adaptation of The Mortal Instruments was met with heavy criticism for the actor’s portrayal of the villain as much younger and less sophisticated than he was in the source material. Van Sprang appears to be much more similar to the character as he was described in the series by Cassandra Clare.
Now that the show is begin to take full shape and with filming only a few weeks away, how do you feel about the cast so far, and do you prefer them over the cast from the 2013 movie?
