Trailer: Biopic about the life of J.R.R. Tolkien will dive into Middle-earth’s origins

Let’s hope it’s one biopic to rule them all.

The Lord of the Rings is considered one of the greatest stories of our age — a true pillar in literature and especially in the fantasy genre. But now fans of the books will have the chance to dive into the life behind Middle-earth in a brand new movie set to premiere later this year.

Fox Searchlight Pictures and Chernin Entertainment are producing a biopic based on the life of Lord of the Rings and Hobbit author J.R.R. Tolkien, named after the author himself. The trailer, released Tuesday, offers the first glimpse of the film, which will dive into the origins of Tolkien’s creation of Middle-earth.

The film’s synopsis reads:

TOLKIEN explores the formative years of the orphaned author as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school. This takes him into the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear the “fellowship” apart. All of these experiences would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-Earth novels.

The movie will star Nicholas Hoult (who readers might recognize from the X-Men movies and ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’), Lily Collins (‘Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile’, ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’) and Anthony Boyle (Scorpius Malfoy from ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’).

The movie definitely looks interesting and is sure to be a treasure trove for fans of Tolkien’s monumental work.

‘Tolkien’ will premiere on May 10.
