As promised, here is my mini movie review of ‘Divergent’. I can’t write a full review until the film is released. But here are my general thoughts/reactions of the movie and its actors. I’ll write a more in-depth one when the movie is actually released.

I had the opportunity to attend the red carpet event in Phoenix, Arizona this last week. Miles Teller who plays Peter and Jai Courtney who plays Eric were in attendance. The event itself was a lot of fun! There was a lot of music, dancing and even a short Q&A with Miles and Jai.

“I feel like I’m a member of One Direction,” said Miles. Fans were, of course, going wild to see Miles–“Peter’s Princesses” as they called them. As for Jai, the crowd settled on the name, “Eric’s Entourage.”

As for the movie itself, I went into the movie theater with semi-high expectations. I was hoping it’d be a good movie, but I wasn’t setting myself up for a let down. Recent films like ‘The City of Bones’ and ‘Percy Jackson’ made me nervous about this one. On the other hand, I knew it was coming from the same studio that produced ‘Catching Fire’ so I had hope.

I was blown away.

Seriously, it was GREAT. One of the best book-to-film adaptions, in my humble opinion. Of course, there are some things they changed and things that were left out. That’s natural. But for the most part it follows the story very well and it really captures the theme and tone of the book.

The opening scene gave me goosbumps. No spoilers, but I’ll say that it’s just a really eerie opening scene and it looks INCREDIBLE. The cinematography was gorgeous! Ever since the ‘Harry Potter’ movies, I’ve always paid attention to the very opening scene of a movie. Watching the WB logo in ‘Potter’ always got you excited. I felt like that again watching the opening to ‘Divergent.’

The music was great. Junkie XL does it. Not the best score ever, but it gets the job done and is appropriate for the film. They use some of the songs from the soundtrack–especially Ellie Goulding’s. I’m not usually a big fan of putting in songs with words as background music to a film, but I thought it all worked well in the movie and it never threw me off.

I was not expecting such good acting. IT WAS AMAZING! They ALL did a good job, in my opinion. I thought Theo James as Four was going to tank (I know, I know–haha) but he actually did a really good job. I’m not saying this as a fangirl obsessed with shirtless guys, but as a guy-fan of the books who doesn’t glomp all over Four. He was great! Theo James IS Four in this movie.

Shailene Woodley as Tris… She IS Tris. LOVED her. I’ve never really seen her in other movies. I caught glimpses of her in ‘Secret Life’ but not much more. She’s the real deal. I forgive the lack of blonde hair simply because she did a fantastic job pulling off Tris. She has a way of capturing the emotions and evolution that Tris experiences in this film.

Ansel Elgort as Caleb=YES. Miles Teller as Peter=Spot on and FUNNY! And lastly, Kate Winslet as Jeanine… LOVED HER!! AHH! She made me hate her. Any actor who can pull that off is brilliant, if you ask me.

I think most fans of the books will REALLY like the film. No, it’s not my favorite movie ever. But if Divergent is your favorite book and franchise, then this was very likely be the best movie you’ve ever seen. I think it’s safe to say that MOST FANS WILL LOVE THIS FILM.

I’m already planning on seeing it again when it actually opens!

KEEP COMING BACK FOR MORE UPDATES ON THE ‘DIVERGENT’ FILM!
