Author James Dashner seems to be all over the place today! He had two Q&As with a few lucky fans, one over at io9.com and the other at wikia books, both lasted for an hour. The questions were regarding ‘The Maze Runner’ Some of the questions over at i09 were:
OracleAnne: Hello! How involved were you in the movie? Were you able to be on set, help with the screenplay, casting? (By the way, I am a teen librarian, and my teens can’t get enough of your books! Thank you for everything you do!)
James Dashner: No, thank YOU! 🙂 Luckily for me, I was very involved, more than I ever dreamed. I consulted on the script, spoke with the director and producers often, went to the set twice, etc. I was even there when they recorded the music. Definitely the highlight of my career, and I’m so pleased with how it turned out.
PlayerOne: Thank you very much for stopping by. I just wanted to say I love the Maze Runner and The Mortality Doctrine books, I just got the second one today and plan on reading it right away.
My question is do you have any thoughts on going back to Thomas and the Gladers at any point, or do you see their tale as finished?
The second question I have is where did you get your inspiration from? Eye of Minds is about a different as Maze Runner could possibly be. How did you “dream” up these two riveting stories and characters?
James Dashner: Thank you thank you for reading THE EYE OF MINDS! That makes me very happy. With the MAZE RUNNER hysteria, sometimes my new series gets lost in the shuffle. I hope you like the second book!
If I ever write more Maze books, they’d be prequels, probably just one. We shall see. And my inspirations for my books are pretty clear cut, and I do like to change things up. I wanted the new series to appeal to the same people but be very different. It was heavily inspired by The Matrix and Inception. Maze was inspired by Lord of the Flies and Lost. Can you see their influences? Pretty obvious, huh? 🙂
To read all the questions go to io9 and wikiabooks. Also, don’t forget to wish happy b-day to our very own Thomas (@dylanobrien) He turns 23 today! Happy b-day Dylan!!
