Good news Shadowhunters fans! The Hollywood Reporter has just revealed that the Shadowhunters TV Show, based on Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments, has been renewed for a second season!
Shadowhunters premiered in January starring Kat McNamara as Clary and Dominic Sherwood as Jace, drawing a large audience to the new Freeform network (previously ABC Family), and despite rating dropping it has remained a hit with the target audience. With the first season drawing to a close with only a handful of episodes left, the news of a second season will surely boost fans already high spirits and possibly draw in more viewers for the season’s climax before a second season presumably tackles book two in The Mortal Instruments, City of Ashes.
The show will now outlive the previous movie adaptation attempt which failed critically and commercially, finally expanding the world of the Shadowhunters on the screen, and could hopefully lead to a long run for the show. Could this maybe lead to us seeing Cassandra Clare’s other Shadowhunter books on the sceen, from the bestselling The Infernal Devices to the newly released The Dark Artifices? Only time will tell.
The show continues towards the end of the first season tomorrow with its tenth episode, ‘This World Inverted’.
