The success of debut author Sabaa Tahir’s An Ember in the Ashes has prompted a sequel, following its breakout on the New York Times bestseller list.

The New York Times is reporting that Tahir’s publisher, Penguin, is ordering a sequel in a mid-six figure deal–something rarely seen in the publishing world (of note: An Ember in the Ashes film rights were optioned by Paramount Pictures for a seven-figure deal). All of this comes after rave reviews of the book. The book currently holds a near-perfect rating on Amazon.com, with no 0-star ratings.

“All of us at Penguin are very happy to promise Sabaa’s fans a second book,” said Ben Schrank, the president of Razorbill (an imprint of Penguin).

Sabaa Tahir made the following statement on her Twitter account:

An Ember in the Ashes follows the story of Laia as she works to free her brother from the Martial Empire. Teaming up with rebels and spying on the Empire’s top military school, Laia meets Elias, a reluctant soldier who questions the Empire’s power. The book reached the number two spot on the New York Times bestseller list within weeks of its publication.
