Today, 42 ‘Divergent’ fans received quite a treat at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas.
Tweens and their moms as well as some boyfriends who were about to embark on a bus trip to Cypress Canopy Tours. They were about to begin a special field trip that would test their Dauntless potential. They were simply prepared for a day of zip-lining, knife throwing and hand-to-hand combat, as well as a game of Capture the Flag with a much deserved barbecue to end the day. That alone would be exciting enough for any hardcore ‘Divergent’ fan. These fans, however, had a little something extra to boost their confidence and make their day that much more exciting.
Theo James, who stars in ‘Divergent’ as Four, showed up to encourage the youngsters in their endeavor.
“If anybody gets in your face, give them an elbow. Make sure at all times you’re watching your back because you never know for sure who’s going to come up and try to break your neck. No,” he said with a laugh, ” just don’t kill yourselves. Shailene and I saw the movie last week and we think you’re going to be really happy with it so don’t kill yourselves with knives today.”
James discussed with fans the filming of the exciting Ferris Wheel scene which just so happens to be one of his favorite stunts!
“Shai and I we were up on the ferris wheel and the whole crew was down on the ground and there were just a few cameras on cranes,” he said. “So, it felt like we were actually doing it. It was five in the morning on a beautiful spring Chicago night. And then the big climax at the end during the fight sequence, I think at one point there were seven guys I had to battle at once. It was a childhood fantasy I have to say.”
Theo James also revealed a little bit of nerdy trivia about himself and the fandoms he personally loves. James and his family are all about The Lord of the Rings, especially Aragorn.
James is in Austin, Texas today to present the Best Music Video award at the MTVu Woodie Awards tonight with co-star Shailene Woodley. The duo will also be presenting an exclusive clip of ‘Divergent’.
