It’s official! Cassandra Clare’s popular Mortal Instruments series is heading to television. ABC Family announced a few days ago that they are working to bring Clary and Jace’s story to life. The show will reportedly be called ‘The Shadowhunters’.

While details are scarce at the moment, shadowhunters are ablaze on social media celebrating and expressing worry about the announcement.

Here are some of the reactions fans have had over the last week:

Cassandra Clare seems optimistic about the show. She announced ABC Family’s development of the show on her Twitter account. It does seem, however, that she doesn’t get a lot of input into how the show is written. That seems to be mainly in the hands of the producers. This is common practice, although author George R. R. Martin (A Song of Fire and Ice) seems to work closely with producers of the ‘Game of Thrones’ series.

To note, this appears to be a reboot of the film. In other words, this won’t be a continuation of the movie. They’re starting new. Don’t expect Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower to return as Clary and Jace.

I read the first TMI book and just couldn’t get into it. I’m still unsure as to whether or not I’ll continue them. But I’m still excited to see how they pull this off. I think it would work better as a show than a film. It seems like the book had a lot going on in it and that’s hard to fit into a two-hour movie.

Just disappointed that the characters will be changed unfair to the fans I seen the movie first then read the books so you picture the characters the same as the movie I loved the movie but think there’s too much blame on the actors/actresses they only followed the script I also think there’s more fans now and wished they would make a second movie I feel it would be a hit I feel betrayed thinking this would become a franchise and being let down if I had of known I wouldn’t of watched it if I knew there would be only one movie don’t know why there scared to make the second do your internet research and see the fan base

Kind of disappoint. Was super exited for another movie especially since lily Collins nailed clairy, but it never got ordered so now we have to hope and pray that they don’t completely contradict the movie that we’ve all seen. Especially if you read the books and watched the movie like I have. Wondering how their going to enter the almost incest thing on tv, its not like abcfamilys HBO and can do like game of thrones.
