Rick Riordan, the author of the Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus series, will be releasing a new short story in conjunction with the paperback release of The Mark of Athena. The story is titled “The Staff of the Serapis” and will feature fan favorites Annabeth Chase and Sadie Kane.

Rick Riordan had this to say on his blog:

Yes, folks, this is the story you’ve asked for, in which Annabeth Chase teams up with Sadie Kane. Dang, it was fun to write the dialogue between those two! This story is a follow-up to “The Son of Sobek,” in which Carter met Percy. Staff of Serapis is even longer, sixty pages, and I hope you like it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

The story is scheduled for release on April 9, 2013 and will be included in the back of paper back copies of Athena. The short story will also be released as an eBook for those who have already purchased their hardcover copy of the book.
